Obedieance Training

First official day of guide dog training. Wow, am I beat. You would be amazed how much down time you have, and you can still be wiped out. I guess it is a combination of not being used to waking up at 6am, and the training. At least the damn Yankees are finally winning a game. It would be nice if they could score in more than one inning.  We started the day with obediance training, and learning how to discpline the dog. We do not train on dogs, ratherthe harness and leash are attached to our instructors arm. You have two kinds of obediance, a right arm, and the more severe left arm pull only for use when or if the dog walks you into something. I wasn’t that great at the left arm one, as I guess I do not want to yank on the dog’s neck to hard. We then went off to the Metropolis of White Plains. Guiding Eyes has a training facility there, and that is where we will do most of our training. I guess the good people of White Plains are a lot nicer than NYC. Both trainers walked us around to see what pace we waalk at, this will determine what dog they think is best for us. The trainers led us around with the harness on their arm, and taught us basic verbal and hand commands to tell the dog to go straight, right, and left. Of course, some jackass yelled to us, You forgot the dog! I guess he was from NYC. Well, tomorrow afternoon is the big day, as we will be introduced to our dogs. Should be interesting and exciting. And, at least we do not have to pick up its poop for the first few days. That is one lesson, I am not looking forward to.
